Types of Job Interviews
There are several types of job interviews. Once you are selected for interview, you may have to face any of the following situations. You should get some information about the person whom you will meet in the interview and what type of interview is going to be held. Know following types of interviews and prepare yourself.
Traditional/Face-to-Face Interview
Most of interviews are face-to-face and one-to-one interview is most common. You need to focus on the person asking the questions. Maintain eye contact with the interviewer. Listen carefully and respond once the question is asked. Try to build rapport with the interviewer and make the interviewer realize that your qualification will surely benefit his organization.
Committee/ Panel Interview
Committee interviews are common practice. More than one interviewers deal with the candidate in this situation. Typically three to ten interviewers conduct this type on interview. You group management and group discussion will be analyzed in this type of selection process. Try to get information about different interviewers. Take time in responding to questions. Maintain primary eye-contact with the person asking question.
Behavioral Interview
This interview is conducted with a basic premier to know your past behavior and results serve as good predictor of your future performance. Employers use to ask hypothetical questions to judge your behavior towards different situations.
Case Interview
Such interviews are conducted by asking you to demonstrate your problem solving skills. Usually interviewer outlines a problem situation and you are asked to tell possible solutions for the problem. This way interviewer will judge how you can implement your knowledge for benefits of organization. Try to make them know clearly about your thought process. It is good for you to ask different questions about the situation to make your mind clear. You can get clues from such inquiry that will help you to deal with the situation.
Telephone Interview
The premier of this type of interview is to conduct a screening process. Interviewers eliminate poorly qualified candidates from their list and call competent candidates for face-to-face interview. It saves their time to reach best qualified employee. Avoid using call waiting feature of your phone to avoid interruption during interview and take it as serious as you take face-to-face interview.
Lunch/Dinner Interviews
Your ethics and behavior is being observed in this type of interview. Follow your interviewer in selection of food and etiquettes. Avoid messy food in lunch/dinner interview and don’t drink alcohol.
Stress Interview
This type of interview has become rare today. It serves best while selecting candidate for sales positions. Basic premier of this interview is to see how you can handle yourself in stress situation. This is used to unnerve the job seeker.
